About us and our editing

My name is Sophie Dracott, and I am the business owner of Clear Copy UK. After completing the Proofreading and editing course from the College of Media and Publishing (CMP), I set up my business.

As a linguaphile, I realised it was time to turn my passion into my work. While I continued to teach, I felt it was time for a change of direction. Proofreading helped me to discover a way to work with language without the distraction of the children.

For the past two years, I have been editing a website for a local business, and editing and proofreading teaching materials to make them more accessible to UK users for a number of clients.

I have spent the majority of my working life in education. Before this, I obtained a BA Hons in English Language and Literature, and a C.E.L.T.A (Certificate for Teaching English To Adults). This led to teaching opportunities in Japan, Thailand, and Spain. Following my return to the UK, I taught in schools across the southwest for many years.

At the beginning of 2021, I completed my proofreading course and achieved a distinction grade. The end is finally in sight for my web editing course which will allow me to offer more to my clients.

Editing services

The service I offer includes all the basics you would expect when someone proofreads copy, and I will answer the following questions: Is the spelling English or American English? Have you used grammar and punctuation accurately? Could the copy be clearer by removing redundant words or phrases? Can I use your style guide, or would you prefer I use my own? Is there consistency in how to apply dates, times, job titles, headings, capital letters, and more?

If you’re looking for any assistance with your copy, please get in touch by filling out our form.
